Department of English

The department of English came in to existence in the year 1890 and in 1948 they started Post Graduate classes. The main focus is growing the communicative skills of the students and imparting value-based education to them so that they excel in all fields after passing out from the college.

The Department of English is renowned for its academic excellence and commitment towards fostering a deep appreciation for literature and language. It offers a comprehensive program that includes English Communication Skills classes, English Literature classes, Honours School at Bachelor’s level and MA English program.

The Honours School program is designed to provide students with a rigorous and in-depth study of English literature and language. It covers a wide range of topics, from classic literature to contemporary literary theory, ensuring that students gain a strong foundation in the field.

For those seeking to pursue advanced studies in English, the department also offers a Master of Arts (MA) program. This program allows students to delve even deeper into their chosen areas of interest within English literature and language.

40 Students learn to use the skills they acquire in the program to augment their professional job opportunities. It is an amalgamation of all technical, and academic skills and skills of critical analysis that create a confident demeanour in the students. They are readied for research prospects.
English for Work Programme offered by the DHE in collaboration with the British Council.

A popular preparation course for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), which is often required for non-native English speakers who want to study or work in English-speaking countries

500 Focussing on teaching the English language in real work-like situations, with a major thrust on listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, the programme aims to equip students with expertise in grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.

Oath-Taking Ceremony on Vigilance Awareness was organized November 1, 2022 Students were administered offline as well as online oath and certificates of the Government of India initiative were downloaded simultaneously
Competitions of poster making, slogan writing & an online quiz were also conducted to celebrate Vigilance Awareness Week.

An Art and craft workshop was conducted by the Enrichment Society girl students under the skill development initiative. October- November 2022 Around 55 students and some female faculty members learnt the art of Jute bag painting, Tie and Dye, Glass Painting, and Fabric Painting..
The Second Pidilite  Art and craft workshop was conducted by the Enrichment Society girl students under the skill development initiative. February 2023 35 girl students benefitted from the programme.
