About the Department

Music Vocal Department was established in the year 1980.Studying in the Department of Music, is a truly different experience for the students. This is because on one hand, the students pursue their concurrent courses, while on the other hand, they also learn the traditional art forms of Indian classical music from the dept of this prestigious institute, which is a mixture of an age-old education system. The atmosphere of teaching-learning is indeed that of an extended family. The students from Music Vocal department secured various position in youth festival and other musical competitions.

Jingle competition 15-12-22 Swacch Patiala Students of the dept won 1st and 2nd position in jingle competition organized by Municipal corporation, Patiala under SAWACHH Patiala project.
2 days Workshop on teaching areas in kathak: Academic and Aesthetic Review 6-7 February, 2023 TATKAAR-2023 Dept of Music of the college in this workshop and Dr. rai Bahadur Singh (Head) was the Coordinator of this workshop.
Webinar on International Women’s Day 8-03-23 Empowered Women Around 150 students and teachers participated in this webinar.

Govt. Mohindra College, Patiala, is a gift of H. H. Maharaja Mohinder Singh (1852-76) of Patiala to his state subjects. At the time of its inception in 1875, it was the only institution of its kind in a vast area stretching from Lahore to Delhi. The College was established to provide free education to the state subjects as this region was educationally impoverished.
