National Service Scheme
Introduction
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a national youth volunteer program run by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. It was launched in 1969 with the aim of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service.
Objective
- To inculcate in the youth the spirit of selfless service and to develop in them a sense of social and civic responsibility.
- To make the youth aware of the problems of the community and motivate them to contribute towards their solution.
- To develop in the youth the skills and qualities necessary for working in teams and for shouldering responsibilities.
- To promote national integration and social harmony among the youth.
- To inculcate in the youth the dignity of labour and the value of manual work.
- To create a sense of commitment to the national development among the youth.
