BUDDY PROGRAM
DRUG PREVENTION & DE-ADDICTION PROGRAM OF GOVERNMENT OF PUNJAB
2018-2021
The objectives of buddy program is to prevent drug abuse among youth by sharing knowledge about harmful effects of drugs , fostering behavioral skills, creating positive peer networks of buddy groups and developing a support system for treatment in community health centres .
Intended Outcomes of the Buddy Program
- To combat the alarming menace of Drug Addiction among the youth of Punjab
- Empower the Youth of Punjab with knowledge and life skills and reduce experimental use of drugs.
- Structure Positive Peer networks to counteract Negative/Deviant Peer pressure.
- To provide treatment and rehabilitation centres for drug dependent students

Buddy Program Evaluation
- Despite the staff constraints , the buddy program was sucessfully implemented in the Govt. Mohindra College.
- The District administration applauded the calendar of Buddy activities conducted at the Govt. Mohindra College .
- The most noteworthy feature was the continuity of the Buddy Program during the Covid-19 pandemic through digital and social media platforms.
- The students enthusiastically participated in the Life skills development module of the program and appreciated it the most.
- The feedback of the students was positive and their participation was overwhelming. They shared a candid opinion of the Buddy Program.
- The students demanded a Drug Abuse Counselling Centre and preferred one-on-one confidential counselling sessions .
